Decor Trends: The Grandmillennial

Design and decor trends are cyclical in nature. Time and time again we see trends that were once seen as old and dated come back into the fold. Even the ones you thought (or hoped) you’d never see again can make a comeback at any time. (Bell bottoms anyone?)

Each generation tends to rebel against the previous one, and in this case, minimalistic modern decor seems to be on it’s way out and granny-chic is moving in! Younger homeowners are about individuality and expressing their creativity. This new trend is being coined as “grandmillenial.” Clever, huh?

Homeowners in their mid 20’s to late 30’s are in favor of design that was recently considered stuffy and outdated. We’re talking drapery, skirts on furniture, floral patterns, china, and needle point pillows. They’re taking these aesthetics and trying to put modern twists on them. It’s mostly just a fresh take on what they grew up with. They are finding ways to combine old and new styles that leaves them feeling comfortable without looking too old school. Let’s look at some examples of the “grandmillenial” style.

These trends are a far cry from the minimalistic modern decor trends that we’ve been seeing a lot of over the past few years, but when done correctly, they look great and feel very home-y. How can you incorporate this trend into your home? You know what they say, “out with the old, in with the new.” In this particular case, however, it seems to be “in with the old.”
